2013 Achievements Recognised

The 2013 drag racing season at Hidden Valley Drag Strip was celebrated this month at the annual awards dinner. Over 120 people celebrated the successful season with a number of officlals also attending and being recognised for their tireless efforts throughout the year including, Glen Bull as Motorsports NT Official of the Year, Ray Joy-Warde (track crew) and the Coles family for their efforts setting up for events.

Special acknowledgement also went to Major Sponsors 7mate, Hot 100, Shannons Insurance, Lucas Oil, Kennards Hire, CSE Comsource and Remote Asset Solutions who have provided valuable advertising and financial injections throughout the year.

The latest Hidden Valley Drag Racing Association life member was also inducted.

“Spike Morrison was selected for his involvement in establishing the Hidden Valley facility that we still use today” said HVDRA President Jay Jukes.

“He started drag racing at the old 33 mile air strip in his beloved FJ (which he still has today) and was on the committee when the move to Hidden Valley took place.”

“He has done many a working bee from clearing the bush while they started laying out the drag strip to guard railing to building the control tower and building the stairs for the tower.”

The night climaxed with competitor awards for club members. Highlights included the presentation of our first ever Top Sportsman trophies to Allan Arthus (Best Presented and Runner Up) and Grant Radcliffe (First place), as well as the unfortunate Hard Luck award going to Maddeline Joy-Warde for her bike accident back in September.

The prestigious Champion of Champions was a close race with Super Sedan racer Daniel Foreman finishing the season only 10 points behind the overall winner, Streek Bike competitor Mark Tattingham on 150 points.

“Once again on behalf of the Association I would like to thank all of the committee members, volunteer officials, competitors, sponsors and fans who have contributed to HVDRA this year” concluded Jukes.

“We look forward to an action packed year of drag racing in 2014.”
