Adrenalin Rush for Skydiver

Ashley Smith, owner of Top End Tandems, needs a new thrill and after skydiving for more than 25 years he has decided there is no better way than to go drag racing.

"I've always been interested in drag racing and when Ravenswood was open south of Perth I used to frequent there, racing my XK Falcon against my friends EH Holden many years ago" said Smith.

After a length search Smith uncovered a 1973 Camaro coupe in America powered by a 565ci big block V8. The wheels were set in motion and the hot coupe has been delivered to Darwin in preparation for the upcoming season at Hidden Valley.

"I'm looking forward to the 29th March Test & Tune to do my licensing passes."

Joining Smith will be local Adam Murrihy who has also upgraded during the off season. Stepping up from his shoebox size A&M Cranes Standard 10 Murrihy is making the leap into a supercharged Altered.

The ex American Funny Car is fitted with a carbon fibre S&W Austin body and powered by a 526ci Keith Black supercharged V8. With a  best ET of 6.32 seconds at 216mph its a big step for Murrihy but he's going to get plenty of seat time over on the east coast before heading back home to Darwin to compete throughout the year.

The Hidden Valley Drag Racing season kicks off on Saturday 29 March with a combined Test & Tune and Beat the Heat Off Street event.
