Series taking shape at Hidden Valley

With round three of the Hidden Valley Drag Strip Track Championship in the books, the story of each of the eight categories is beginning to take shape.

Benny Phillips moved to equal first with Dwight Brieffies thanks to his victory against Grant Radcliffe in Top Sportsman. It was Phillips' second final round in a row after his appearance in the Nitro Up North edition. The Victorian driver almost had a disastrous end to his Nitro Up North campaign after a small fire when he started up his 565ci Chev-equipped Holden Torana, but Track Championship Round Three was a much smoother affair.

“Winning was the icing on the cake,” Phillips said. “My success over the last few weeks also comes from a few individuals behind the scenes that help make the car as good as it is. Bring on the NT Titles.”

Phillips' Torana was not the only one to experience success, with Chris Parris putting his own Torana into the winner's circle in Super Sedan, putting him on even points with leader Ashley Smith.

Jack Kyprios now has two Track Championship round wins for Modified Bike this season, boosting his lead over Brandt McGlade and Mark Tattingham, as Andrew Reid picked up the win in Street Bike against Tattingham.

Tim Bryan's classic Ford GT reached the trophy in Super Street against Paul Cook, while Bob Czerniawski reached his second final round for the Track Championship series and defeated Justin Neck.

The siblings Harris are duking it out in Junior Dragster, with Madison gaining bragging rights over sister Brooke.

Finally, drag racing isn't the only championship being fought out at Hidden Valley Drag Racing Association events. There is also a burnout series happening and with seven entrants at the last round of the Track Championship, support is gaining traction – though thankfully the competitors aren't! Rhys Trezise now has two wins and a healthy points lead.

The next round of the series takes place at the NT Titles on August 13.
